About S.D. Burman
Sachin Dev Burman, also known as S.D. Burman, was a music director and singer who was active from the year 1932 to 1975. Having composed music for over 100 films, he became one of the most succesful Bollywood music composers of all time. He frequently collaborated with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Manna Dey among others. He himself provided vocals to several Hindi and Bengali tracks throughout his career. He employs his nasal high-pitched voice and unique singing voice to haunting effect in movies. He composed the music for several of Dev Anand's films such as Taxi Driver and Baazi. His hit, 'Thandi Hawain' from Naujawan led to the fame of Lata Mangeshkar as a singer. Later on, he went on to create further hits in form of Bandini, Ziddi and Aradhana, which is considred a landmark score in the Bollywood industry. He has received several awards throughout his illustrious career such as 2 National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards for Best Music Director and the Padma Shri in 1969.
