About Sahir Ludhianvi

Sahir Ludhianvi is the pen name of Abdul Hayee who is popularly known as Sahir, was an Indian poet and film lyricist who wrote in the Hindi and Urdu languages. He made his debut with four songs performed in the 1949 film Azadi Ki Raah Par, one of the songs was "Badal Rahi Hai Zindagi". His first major break came in the year 1951 when he wrote the lyrics for S.D. Burman's music in Baazi. The movie, directed by Guru Dutt, and its music was a success and together S.D. Burman and Sahir went on to create some of their work in Jaal, House Number 44, Munimji and the evergreen classic Pyaasa. Sahir Ludhianvi won a Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for 1963 film Taj Mahal. He won a second Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for his work on 1976 film Kabhie Kabhie. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971.
