About Bhupen Hazarika

Bhupen Hazarika was an Indian playback singer, musician, lyricist, singer, poet and film-maker from Assam, widely known as Sudhakantha. In addition, Hazarika also made a wide range of films like Era Bator Sur, Mon Prajapati, Swikarokti, and Chingaari. For his contribution to Indian cinema, In 1975, he received the National Film Award for Best Music Direction, Padmashri in 1997, Padmabhushan in 2001, and posthumously, the Padma Vibhushan in 2012, among other awards. He was also the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987, as well as the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1992. In May 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest bridge, which runs over the Lohit river in Assam. Modi named the Dhola-Sadia bridge after Bhupen Hazarika.
